To Start With...

Do we really need another blog about the actor and the actor's experience?  Do we need more content about actor training?  Hasn't it all already been said before?  Is this redundant?  Am I just rehashing tired theories and worn out discussions?

As it has been said many times there is nothing new, only new ways to tell the story again.  This is my chance to tell it in a new way.  A chance to give my perspective.  It's my opportunity to wrestle with and answer the questions that I believe the actor, artist, and creator struggles with.  Just as every actor relishes to tackle a challenging role--a role that has seen thousands upon thousands of interpretations over decades of production-- I'm excited to tackle the challenges of the actor in this blog.

I hope that I can offer, to everyone who tunes in to read, insight from my experience as a professional actor and academic in pursuit of deeper understanding for the actor's experience.  I will do my best to offer artistic honesty as I raise questions and search for fulfilling answers.  Sometimes I just want to throw stuff out there and see what comes back.  Sometimes I have no idea what the answers are but I want to "think out loud" until ideas form into shapes.  So to quote my father, "truth has nothing to fear of investigation" and that's what I plan to do.  I intend to investigate it all.  Because even after two degrees and nearly twenty years working in the business I'm still searching for answers to what it means to be an actor.

I hope you'll join me!
